Their Crime

This page is dedicated to truly unsung heroes - people who should truly be lauded as celebrities because true “stars” contribute something… especially when they are persecuted for it.

Inventor of the Laser
You’ve probably never heard of Gordon Gould.  But without him, modern life would not be possible.  “Gordon Gould had the battle of his life receiving credit for his laser invention. He had to go through federal court battles and being dismissed from the project by the United States armed forces.”

She saw it coming
Brooksley Born “warned of the potential for economic meltdown [which we are now in] in the late 1990s, [and] tried to convince the country’s key economic powerbrokers to take actions that could have helped avert the crisis…[they] tried to ruin Ms. Born’s career in Washington in the name of making the world safe for OTC derivatives.”

Karen Silkwood
In 1974, she was a blue-collar worker who raised concerns about plutonium plant safety. She died under mysterious circumstances after she started investigating claims of irregularities and wrongdoing at the Kerr-McGee plant.
